Session 23 details and a call for interview questions!

Published: Mon, 03/20/17

Hi

Mark Dixon was kind enough to join me for another round of questions on the podcast, and I should have his interview published in the next few days. We spend the majority of the episode talking about the PEAK curriculum that he's created. However, we start the episode with some follow up questions from our first interview regarding the ACT curriculum for children with Autism and emotional challenges.

The other thing I want to mention is that in a week or so, I'm going to interview Dr. Adel Najdowski, BCBA-D. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the New Hampshire ABA conference last October and was really impressed with the talk she did on perspective taking. If you're not familiar with Adel, here's her bio:

Adel Najdowski, Ph.D., BCBA-D is an Associate Professor and Program Director of M.S. in Behavioral Psychology at Pepperdine University. Dr. Najdowski has provided ABA-based  services to children with autism for 20 years. Between 2005 and 2010, she led the development of Skills®, an online curriculum for children with autism. In 2014, Dr. Najdowski co-authored, Evidence-Based Treatment for Children with Autism: The CARD Model. She has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters in scientific texts, and articles in popular media. Dr. Najdowski has served on the editorial boards of  the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and Behavior Analysis in Practice and as a Guest Editor for a special issue in Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Her current research interests include teaching higher-order skills to children with autism and assessment and curriculum design for children
with autism.

Adel has just published a book, "Flexible and Focused: Teaching Executive Function Skills to Individuals with Autism and Attention Disorders." Now the term "executive function," is thrown around all the time - especially in school settings - generally with little thought to things like operational definitions, measurement, and all of those other things that we like to see. As such, when this book came across my radar, I reached out and asked Adel to come on the podcast and enlighten us.

So if you have any questions about executive function topics, just reply to this email and I'll select some listener questions to add to mine.

All the best,
Matt

PS - If you're attending APBA, I hope to see you there. Evidently there's some photo sharing app that the kids are using these days. I'll try to figure out how to use it and share some pictures from New Orleans on Instagram (@behavioralobservations).
